The man shouted: "I've been waiting for hours, I'm hungry!" before punching a stewardess, shocked passengers said.
An easyJet plane was forced to make an emergency landing after a passenger reportedly punched a stewardess because he was waiting too long for a sandwich.

The man was arrested after the early morning flight, carrying 180 passengers from Geneva to Pristina in Kosovo, was diverted to Rome.

The stewardess had her glasses broken and received medical attention at the airport.

She later told Swiss newspaper 20 Minutes: "I was totally shocked. I can't understand how anyone could react so violently over a sandwich."

Onlookers said the man shouted: "I've been waiting for hours, I'm hungry!" before punching her.

Fellow passengers then restrained the man, while the Airbus A320 was diverted to Fumincino airport, reports said.

A spokesman for the airline said: "EasyJet can confirm that flight EZS1483 from Geneva to Pristina on 31 March diverted to Rome as a result of a passenger onboard behaving in a disruptive manner.

"The aircraft was met by the police on arrival in Rome and the passenger was arrested.

"The safety and wellbeing of passengers and crew is always easyJet's priority."

The passengers were flown on to Pristina on a separate flight later in the afternoon.
