Boko Haram Launches Fresh Attack, Kills Dozens In Borno Communities

Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have launched a fresh attack on Fuyi, Fatakol and other communities bordering Cameroon, Kala Balge and Gamboru Ngala local government areas of Borno state.
According to sources and witnesses, the insurgents in their hundreds killed dozens of people, destroyed houses and looted properties including live stocks, Vanguard reports.
A reliable source disclosed that the incident took place at about 7am on Thursday, March 19.
Kala Balge and Gamboru Ngala, located south east of Maiduguri, the state capital, remained under the control of insurgents, until recently when they were dislodged from their hideouts by Chadian troops.
The troops after routing the insurgents from these communities advanced towards Dikwa town and continued their mission with none of Nigerian troops stationed in the captured communities if Gamboru Ngala, sources said.

The insurgents, who were armed with AK47 rifles, Anti Aircraft Guns mounted on some Hilux vehicles, with large number of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and locally made petrol bombs invaded the communities and wrecked havoc, before Camerounian troops responded gallantly.
They slaughtered over 13 people in Fuyi village near Gamboru Ngala, a border town with Cameroon Republic.

An eyewitnesses from Fuyi and Fatakol who pleaded anonymity said: “Many people were killed in Fuyi village by suspected terrorists on Thursday, likewise, in Fatakol town of Cameroon Republic, another group of insurgents attacked nearby communities living many people dead with scores injured.”
Boko Haram has been waging war against Nigeria for some years now and thousands have been killed. The three states most affected are Adamawa, Yobe and Borno. Thousands of people have been killed in those states and many displaced.
Reports surfaced recently that Adamawa and Yobe have been liberated from the grasp of Boko Haram insurgents, leaving Borno as the only state still under the insurgents hold.
On Sunday, March 15, three suicide bombers died as they tried to attack the soldiers of the 212th battalion who were conducting stop and search operations in Jakana, Borno state.
