What Military Have To Say About Shekau’s Threats To Disrupt Elections

Despite threats made by Boko Haram leader (or his impostor), Abubakar Shekau, in a recent video, the Nigerian military has vowed to secure Nigeria against insurgents during and after the elections.

In the latest footage, Shekau said the sect would disrupt the postponed elections, scheduled for March 28 and April 11.

Nigeria’s number 1 terrorist claimed:

“This election will not be held even if we are dead. Even if we are not alive Allah will never allow you to do it.”

However the Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade insisted that they would not be intimidated as he spoke February 18 with Channels TV. Counter-terrorism operations will continue, “no matter the threats”, he said.

Olukolade recalled the success in reclaiming Monguno and other town from Boko Haram adding that it demonstrates the military’s commitment to flushing the sect.
Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Attahiru Jega, said during yesterday’s meeting with the Nigerian Senate on the upcoming polls, that the body could not guarantee that the voting would hold on the specified dates.
