Keeping Keshi Will Be A Bad Precedence – Amodu Insists Keshi Must Go

Former Nigeria coach and technical director of Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Shaibu Amodu has insisted that Stephen Keshi should quit as the Super Eagles coach, after losing out in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

Speaking with the press on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, Amodu said that Keshi should not expect the NFF to offer him a fresh contract as it will be a bad precedent of celebrating failure.
“Stephen Keshi alone will decide if he has a reputation or he does not have a reputation. If he has a reputation he will walk out of the job, if he does not have, he should stay like a beggar,” Amodu said.
“To keep Keshi is bad precedence because when Samson Siasia failed, we came on air to tell the whole country that he had failed and therefore, he should go.
“President Goodluck Jonathan could not save him, so if we want to live on those standards, what is good for the goose is good for the gander. But you must know that this is my personal opinion.”

Amodu also stated that he never intended to manage the team for their last two matches of Afcon qualifiers.

“As a coach, you are as good as your last game. If as at the time I was asked to oversee the two remaining Afcon qualifiers, I would have been assumed to have failed,” he said.
The leadership of NFF led by Amaju Pinnick has however stated that the federation is still on the negotiation table with Keshi and could still hand him a new contract.

“We even spoke with him on Monday, agreement is not something you rush. Both sides have to agree on certain terms. We are also looking at who can work amicably with others,” Pinnick said.
Nigeria are not in a hurry to settle the coaching job as their next international engagements come up in March 2015.
