A fake Major in the Nigerian Army, Afolabi Hassan, was arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for impersonation.
The suspect, pretending to be an army officer, is now in Police custody.
Mr. Hassan, on November 4, was reported to have attempted to ‘arrest’ an estate agent over landed property he claimed was bought by some soldiers.
The Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, who paraded the suspect, said one Monsuru Akande, reported at Area Command that about 1.10 p. m. of November 4, the suspect was dressed in Nigerian Army uniform to carry out the illegal operation.
When PREMIUM TIMES spoke with the suspect, he admitted committing the crime. Mr. Hassan said he was a dismissed soldier and got employed as a security guard at a private company after his dismissal.
The suspect said he regrets his action, saying before his dismissal in the army, he was on a salary scale of one hundred thousand naira as compared to his current security guard position where he now earns forty thousand naira.
The Commissioner of Police said the case is still under investigation and added that once investigation is completed, the suspect will be arraigned.
