Boko Haram Finally Withdraws From Adamawa Town, Removes Flag

 Barely two days after report surfaced that Boko Haram had taken over Maiha Local Government Area of Adamawa State, residents in the area have said the insurgents have withdrawn from the town.

According to a report by Daily Trust, the insurgent withdrew from the town after they suffered a heavy defeat in the hands of Nigerian soldiers, though they succeeded in killing at least 10 civilians.

Maiha is about 25 kilometres from Mubi, the commercial town captured by the insurgents in Adamawa last week. Maiha is also about 200km from Yola, the state capital.

A resident of Maiha disclosed that at about 1:30 pm on Tuesday, the insurgents removed a flag they had hoisted on Monday when they took over the town at the Jalingo Primary School and headed towards Mubi.

The resident said before they left, they gathered young people and shot some while they slit the throats of others. They also warned other residents of the consequences of disobeying their orders or cooperating with security personnel.

A security source who spoke on condition of anonymity explained that soldiers and the sect members were engaged in a battle late Monday.

He said both sides suffered casualties and the insurgents may have withdrawn from the town due to heavy casualty.
