Zambian survivor of Synagogue Church building collapse narrates his story, discloses what he saw on the site and why the tragedy might have occurred.
The building belonging to the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) unexpectedly fell down on September 12, leaving more than 100 people dead and many injured.
While the cause of the incident is yet to be officially ascertained, many believed that it was because of allegedly unapproved reconstruction of the building. However the church founder T.B. Joshua insisted his church had been attacked and provided the video proof: an unidentified aircraft hovering over the structure on the fateful day.
Amid terrifying stories being shared by the tragedy survivors, another person narrated his ordeal related to the dire collapse, as reported by Zambia’s The Church Newspaper.
Melvin Bwalya, 39, disclosed that he had been following T.B. Joshua for a long time adding that the Nigerian prophet had helped him to achieve his business goals and fulfill his potential.
The father of 3 and about 15 of other Zambians traveled to Nigeria, with one of their plans to visit the SCOAN. Bwalya narrated what happened on the fateful day.
“That day, I remember it was lunch time. My room was in that same building. So, I left that room to go and have my lunch at a nearby restaurant just within the same premises. I was with my Zambian colleagues.
“At the same time, a lot of South Africans were coming from somewhere and were entering in that building. Among them, I recognized someone whom we did business together some years ago. So, my fellow Zambians left and I remained just on the corner chatting with that guy.”
Some minutes later Melvin heard a loud noise. He was standing outside, near the building. After the collapse he was said to have immediately fainted.
“What I was told is that the South African guy I was with died. As for me, it was just a small piece of concrete that hit me on the head and that is how I collapsed and fell a few meters away from the building where I was buried in a heap of dust.”
Melvin was rushed to the hospital but hours later discharged, because his injury was not serious and he could return to his native country in several days.
Speaking about what caused the collapse, Bwalya insisted that it was not a structural problem, but an attack.
“I was there. I saw those planes flying over the building and I believe there is something fishy that happened that day. You know, there are a lot of Christian leaders who hate T.B. Joshua in Nigeria. They are jealousy that all foreign visitors go to his church. That is why they performed that attack so that people can look down on the man of God. But God will defeat them and TB Joshua is not going down. In fact, I intend to go back there next month.”
The survivor praised Joshua urging his fellow Zambians to avoid speaking ill about the clergyman, whom he called “a great man who has done a lot for people around the world”.
Melvin also added that Joshua was the most generous man of God he had ever known.
“TB Joshua is here to stay. No amount of bad press will take him down.”
