Lagos Police Command Parades Suspected killers of Newswatch Editor


 An armed robbery gang which confessed to have killed a former Assistant Editor of Newswatch newspaper, Toyin Obadina, during one of their operations was on Tuesday paraded by the Lagos State Police Command.

The police gave the names of members of the six-man gang as Adeshina Festus, Sunday Samuel, Ibrahim Adeokin, Babatunde Makinde, while the remaining two, simply identified as Oke and Benjamin, were killed by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad detectives during another operation.

  It was gathered that the gang members were arrested from their hideout in Ajelogo, Mile 12 area of the state on Thursday, October 17 following a tip-off. The suspects were said to have confessed to the police during interrogations that they masterminded the killing of the owner of a Toyota Salon car with number plate AKD 701 CE.

They confessed to have snatched the vehicle at Lucky Fibre area, Ikorodu on Friday, February 1, and abandoned the corpse of the owner at about 1 am. The police thereafter got to know that the victim was Obadina, the Newswatch Assistant Editor.
DailyPost recalls that news had it on Monday, February 3, that some gunmen in two Sport Utility Vehicles shot Obadina in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State at about 1 am. It was also reported that 50-year-old Obadina, who is an indigene of Ogun State, died the following Sunday in the course of a surgery aimed at removing the bullets lodged in his stomach.


While warning criminally-minded people to desist from their acts, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Cornelius Aderanti, cautioned them to be guided by the fact that the police is equal to the task.
