Police arrest NSCDC operative over alleged murder

The police in Osun have arrested an operative of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) over the death of one Kamaldeen Muritala.
A statement issued in Abuja on Sunday by the Force spokesman, ACP Frank Mba, said Muritala, a 32-year old Islamic teacher, died of fatal stab wounds allegedly inflicted on him by the NSCDC operative.
The statement said that the deceased was a teacher attached to Comprehensive High School, Ejigbo, Osun.
It said the incident happened on 27 June, noting that preliminary investigation by detectives revealed that Muritala died at Baptist Hospital, Ejigbo, from complications of the “fatal stab wounds inflicted on his neck with a jack-knife.”
The statement stated that the incident occured during an argument close to the entrance of an examination hall where a National Examination Council (NECO) organised examination was taking place.
“Following the demise of the Islamic teacher, students of the school attempted to raze down office structures belonging to the NSCDC as well as those of other government establishments in the area.
“But the timely intervention of the police prevented further breakdown of law and order,” the statement said.
It also said the timely intervention of the police helped to rescue the 30-year old suspect as well as prevent other property from being burnt.
The statement, which warned citizens against resort to self help no matter the provocation, said justice would be served in the case.
